The Fourth IEEE Conference on Panel: Network Architectures in the Optical Age All-optical networks are expected to play a dominant role in wide area and metro-area networks. These networks consist of optical cross connects and add-drop multiplexers in the core interconnecting routers and switches at its edges. A signaling plane that controls the interworking between electronic and optical switches is emerging. What will be the balance between the optical and switching technologies in all-optical networks? What services will the control plane provide? What interfaces are needed for the control plane to realize these services? What are the challenges and opportunities for the OPENARCH community in this space? These are some of the key questions that will be debated. Organizer: Aurel A. Lazar, Xbind Inc. and Columbia University Panelists: Dirceu Cavendish, NEC Labs Princeton, Gunnar Karlsson, KTH Stockholm, Dimitrios E. Pendarakis, Tellium, Dan Rubenstein, Columbia University, ` Jennifer Yates, AT&T Labs. |
