Coming by Car

• From the north: (1) Take the New York Thruway (route 87) to the Cross Bronx Expreesway in the direction of the George Washington Bridge. Bear right as you approach the bridge and take the exit for the Henry Hudson Parkway south. (2) The New England Thruway (I-95) becomes the Cross Bronx Expressway. Proceed as above. (3) Take the Saw Mill Parkway south or the Cross Country Parkway west to the Henry Hudson Parkway south.
• From the east: Take the Grand Central Parkway or Long Island Expressway west to the Cross Island Parkway north. Cross over the Throgs Neck Bridge to the Cross Bronx Expressway in the direction of the George Washington Bridge. Proceed as above.
• From the south and west: Take the New Jersey Turnpike (I-95) north or the I-80 east to the George Washington Bridge. As you cross the Bridge, be careful to exit onto the Henry Hudson Parkway south.

• Limited Parking is available on campus. Please call in advance for this consideration. Otherwise, street parking can be found in the neighbourhood; a parking garage is located on 122nd Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue and another at Morningside Garage, 3100 Broadway at 123rd Street.

Coming by Train or by Bus

• Train Service in New York arrives at Grand Central or Pennsylvania Station; bus service arrives at the Port Authority Bus Terminal. From any of these, you can take public transportation or a taxi ($12) north to the Columbia campus.

Coming by Air

• Taxis: Taxis are available directly from Kennedy airport to Columbia. Tell the driver that the most direct route to Columbia and the Upper West Side is the Triborough Bridge, not the Queens Midtown Tunnel. Taxi fare should be approximately $35, including the toll ($3.00) for the bridge.
• Carey Airport Limousine Bus: The Carey Coach bus service provides the least expensive ride from J.F.K. The busses run every 20 to 30 minutes between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m., stopping to pick up passengers in several places along the airport sidewalk. Look for signs (or ask a porter or guard) that indicate a Carey bus stop with Manhattan as the destination. A one-way trip is $11. This bus service makes two stops in Manhattan: at Park Avenue and 41st Street; and at the Port Authority Bus Terminal on 8th Avenue and 42nd Street. You can either get off at Port Authority and take a taxi (about $10) or subway (see directions above) to Columbia, or get off at Park Avenue and catch the westbound #104 bus on 42nd Street. (The #104 bus stops front of Columbia's gates at 116th Street; bus and subway fares in New York City are $1.50 a ride, exact change only in coins for busses.)

• Taxis Taxis are available directly from LaGuardia airport to Columbia. Tell the driver that the most direct route to Columbia and the Upper West Side is the Triborough Bridge, not the Queens Midtown Tunnel. Taxi fare should be approximately $25, including the toll ($3.00) for the bridge.
• Carey Airport Limousine Bus Busses run about every half hour from several different places around LaGuardia to Grand Central Station. The fare is $8 for a one way trip. You can then catch the westbound #104 bus on 42nd Street. (The #104 bus stops front of Columbia's gates at 116th Street; bus and subway fares in New York City are $1.50 a ride, exact change only in coins for busses.)
• MTA Bus This is in my opinion the best (and chepeast) way to get to Columbia from LaGuardia. Take the M60 from any terminal and get off at 116th street and Broadway. The ride is about 35 minutes and the bus frequency is every 20 minutes. The fare is $1.50, exact change only (in coins, no bills) or token.

• New Jersey Transit Busses leave from Newark Airport to the Port Authority Bus Terminal 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, leaving every 15 minutes MOST of the day, but run less often in the wee hours (with up to 90 minutes between busses.. The bus is #300; the price is $7 one way. The ride takes about 30 minutes. From Port Authority take the subway (directions above) to Columbia or catch the #104 bus at the Northeast corner of 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue.
